counting down the hours......

spent a little time today in my sewing room, made some hourglass blocks, thought that fitting with the new year almost upon us.......

used leftovers triangles i had from the flying geese quilts i had made earlier this year and cut some light triangles to go with them.......they were cut from 3&1/4" squares, cut in half diagonally twice......
the alternate squares are cut 2&1/2" ........
thinking of doing a 1" wide black inner border and then a 2&1/2" wide print border....... may only do three sides for the border, like that antique look...... enjoy your last few hours of 2012 and see you in 2013 soon.......

Honor the past, celebrate the present, embrace the future........

granny square block......

found the measurements that i used in making this block, here they are........
each block has one center square cut 2&1/4".....
four squares of second print cut 2&1/4"......
four 2&1/4" squares and eight 2&1/4" x 4" rectangles from third print.....
from black cut three 3&3/4" squares, cut diagonally twice for setting triangles and two 2&1/4" squares, cut diagonally once for corners.......

my quilt has a 3" cut wide black border....... and a scrap square border using 2&1/4" print squares and 3&3/4" squares, cut once diagonally from black....... print border cut 5" wide on three sides only......

enjoy piecing up your own........

a little this and that......

had the fun idea to use cardboard boxes for gift wrapping this year, each grandchild and adult child had one, fourteen total......filled boxes, wrapped with colored tape and stickers, stacked, then stood back and pondered "how it the heck are we going to get these all in one vehicle to bring with us Christmas morning!?!".....it did take two!!!! but was totally worth it to see the look on everyone's eyes.......plus it was less waste of paper, trash accumulated, handy carrier for gifts and a an empty cardboard box has lots of creative/useful possibilities.......

made this Blueberry French Toast breakfast dish for Christmas breakfast, one of those make the night before and bake in the morning......totally delicious
get the recipe here...... http://bookcooking.net/showthread.php?tid=4146

knitted up this adorable and so easy scarf for Lucy, she looks so cute......needs more in a variety of colors and other granddaughters want one too!
get the instructions here..... http://littleinspiration.com/2012/10/how-to-knit-a-bow-scarf.html

did a little much needed tiding up in the kitchen and now since i don't need to cook, decorate, wrap, shop (well we do need some food other than sweets eventually) .......i'm heading out to my sewing room, need to finish putting the rows together on my Four Knaves, so it can go to the quilters and i can then vacuum/clean my sewing room.......need to tidy just a little before starting off on new projects......
also had my granny square quilt, made a long, long time ago quilted finally, so i will put the binding on today also.......

enjoy.......

build a snowman......

made this several years ago, always makes me smile :)
took a jar, spray painted the lid black, put in rock salt, mixed with glitter, twigs, black beads, a broken toothpick painted orange, stamped a tag and tied on with whatever was handy......
and now you have all the parts and pieces to build a snowman when the urge strikes......

wool stockings and more......

my wool sock measures 8" from top to toe......picture prints out 2&1/4" from top to toe, needs to be enlarged 350% and it will be just a slight bit smaller than mine or you could go 400% just a little bit larger......now if you are a math wizard, you could find a number in between that's perfect...... if it were me i'd just pick and go for it or go the larger of the two......

and i'm giving away the snowman wool sock to hang on your tree, who needs another ornament?...... was so discomboobalated yesterday forgot to put that tidbit in the blog post.....

Amy Loar is the recipient of this sparkled little primitive quilt.......will go off in today's mail Amy

enjoy your day, mine will spent unpacking, grocery shopping, laundry, cleaning......not necessarily fun but definitely needed

p.s. forgot to mention rusty bells......i rusted my own
if you have access to swimming pool acid, dangerous be Careful! takes coating off or you can soak in vinegar, then put outside in a metal container where they can be wet and leave to rust......and i know there's probably several places that sell them online......

A Primitive Christmas

okay ladies here's the scoop...... my sweet hubby, being as patient as he can be has tried to figure out how to get a Portable Document Format "PDF" inserted into my blog post with the stocking templates, actually i believe PDF means PRETTY DARN FINICKY!!!
he had no luck.....so he did a JPG picture which you can print...... it's in the next post below, now it will print off smaller though, will need to enlarge to fit on an 8&1/2" x 11" page, not sure how much but somewhat more than 50%.......tomorrow when i have a chance i'll run to Kinko's and figure it out as best i can......
why..... oh why do my posts have to be so darn backward and difficult sometimes.....
you know i do know that whatever size your stockings turn out to be, it will all be fine......remember this is PriMiTiVe......

A Primitive Christmas

A Primitive Christmas

it's my A Primitive Christmas Day blog post day......in true "cheri" fashion in will be basic, elementary & original......as some of you know i've been vacationing in Hawaii for the past week and true to who i am was stitching the last stitches before bed, dunked them in tea, laid them out to dry while gone, vacationed, had a wonderful time, picked up a tree on our way home from airport yesterday, hung them & now my tree is decorated......

[image_2

mine were made from wool...... simply cut out stocking shape, stitched designs to stocking front, added buttons & rusty bells, stitched back to front tacking in a strip of wool for hanger, using a primitive overcast stitch......
primitive candy canes are just a red & white pipe cleaners twisted together and tea dyed......

here's a couple of pictures of my recent decorating purchases of primitive Santas and thrift store finds, that will be used in decorating my home after i play with Lucy, fill orders, clean my house, do laundry, etc. ahhhh....the pleasures of returning home after spending a week in paradise......

cookies...... well really candy
made this so easy Christmas Bark to share......

now in staying true to who i am, there will be a post below which will have the PDF file with stocking template pieces and candy recipe.......because you already know these are the types of computer knowledge necessary tasks that i'm not equipped to do on my own and insert where necessary in this post......so when done enjoying the pictures, go down to the post to enjoying some stitching & baking time......

Happy Holidays to all........
