abcdefg.....

letter A.....post below has block layout
yes my letter A block has drab green corner squares, was trying out my options, decided on the pumpkin but you know me not going to rip out so drab green corners stay for this one......

abcdefg.....

letter A......
sections left to right.....1&1/2" x 4&1/2" red + one half square triangle.....
one half square triangle + 1&1/2" x 4&1/2" muslin.....
one 1&1/2" sq + 1&1/2"x2&1/2" red + one each red & muslin 1&1/2" sq.....
repeat second then first sections.....
note.....all squares and rectangles are 1&1/2" wide.....
all half square triangles are made with 1&7/8" squares, cut diagonally once.....
with the exception of a couple blocks all blocks are bordered in 1&1/2" x 5&1/2" red with 1&1/2" square pumpkin corners.....
unfinished size of all blocks is 7&1/2" square, you know mine aren't perfect.....
if you'd like to cut a few pieces ahead most all letters use the half square triangles, 1&1/2" squares and 1&1/2" x 2&1/2", 3&1/2", 4&1/2".......of both muslin and red

abcdefg.....

i'm drawn to alphabets in quilts, samplers and such, are you?  the next sew along will be an antique inspired alphabet sampler quilt with a few of my own creative changes......this will be a summer spilling into fall sew along, there are thirty blocks total in the quilt, twenty-six letters and four extra blocks, i'll post two blocks a week.....
my fabric choices were red, green, muslin and a little burnt orange.....had these fabrics already in my collection and happened to have a yard of each the red and green, used every square inch i had but it was enough.....so you may want to have a little extra on hand or just say to yourself if i run out, i'll make do, which is what i would have done if need be....
my top is together and hope to start quilting it soon, will post a finished picture soon....so go collect your fabrics, will post a & b this week.....
this quilt will not be given away after sew along is finished but i hope to throw in a couple other little fun antique inspired quilt projects this summer that i will part with....
see you in a couple days.....
