folk art.....

my favorite pieces of folk art in my home are my Kay Cloud "Sawdust Dolls Lady" originals and how i came about owning them is a fun story....
back in the days of my tole painting i was asked to teach in Branson Mo. at a tole painting gathering, flew into Springfield, rented a car and started off to find Branson, well i'm not very good at knowing my east from west, needless to say get lost easy and i did on these tiny, all look the same highways in the back country of Mo.....way lost, very frustrated, almost to the point of tears, no cell phones then, would stop when i could find something to stop at and ask directions....driving  around and around and then in front of me there it was the most amazingly painted folk art style house i'd ever seen, put on the brakes, pulled over needed to know more.....they were not home, at a flea market neighbor told me "she buys junk, paints on it and sells it" wow right up my alley.....kind neighbor gave me directions to Branson and off i went but i couldn't get that home out of my mind, so during my week of teaching i was given one day off, guess where i headed, she was there, spent the entire day with this amazing folk artist, just watching and listening trying to soak it all in, bought these two pieces......
have always wanted to return to Reed Springs to see if she's still at it but i think maybe i happened onto the best and leave it at that.....

can't go wrong with old worn suitcases, boxes, trunks and little quilts....
p.s. only have binding to do on next month's little quilt, are you ready?

black dolls and cats, LoVe THeM......i remember when my grandson Cooper was a baby he cried everytime he saw this primitive black doll from one of my favorites The Country Loft.....

this dye cabinet is a reproduction piece that i had to have while shopping the Valley Forge Gift Market, many, many years ago when i had my quilt store Calico Station......of course, as it should be there where minimum dollar amounts when purchasing wholesale and so this beauty cost me a pretty penny, as i had to buy three reproduction cabinets to get this one, they are all very nice, used them for store displays.....as most of the furniture in the store was for sale, everyone would always want to buy this one which was NoT for SaLE......

random photos f my home....

as i was cleaning up my house a bit this morning, should be alot because it soooo needs it but anyway thought i would take some random photos of some of my favorite nooks&crannies to post about something other than adorable lucy, while you patiently wait for the next antique inspired little quilt.....which by the way i did cut pieces for and will start today after this posting.....
this wonderful blue cabinet was purchased in Texas and is why my boys will never move me again, so very, very heavy.....it houses my collection of Coors Pottery and my one original treasured Debbie Thibault, a santa bought for me by my sweet husband from the Country Loft.....

greg's stove...

greg's 1940's stove that he wanted, we do like cooking on it...

kitchen floors

we pulled off the old flooring were going to put done pine but when i saw the primitive subfloor i said that's my floor! whitewashed it and sanded it off....had to replace a couple of boards so i painted those red and where there were holes nailed down tin cans, couldn't be happier with how it turned out...

kitchen cabinets

notice all the door knobs and drawer pulls are each different, too fun...

how my kithchen cabinets came to be...

we remodeled our kitchen a few years ago and i knew that it was mandatory that we have primitive pine cabinets and counter top, every tried to talk me out of it but i held firm on that...found a cabinet maker who did just what i wanted but unfortunatly was not going to fit, even close in the budget so we had to put in ordinary cabinets from Home Depot, hated them...so greg made me pine doors and i painted, sanded, beat them with everything, glued stuff on and pulled it off till they were just what i wanted and we love them and the pine counter is wearing just like i wanted....he shares with all how he measured and sanded so nice the doors just for me to beat the heck out of them!

my kitchen

primitive blue cabinets used for glassware and such...the unique guitar wine rack was made for greg by our daughter katie, isn't it fun!

my favorite cupboard...

this piece was purchased years ago in Texas....perfect for my Coors Pottery

Coors Rosebud

i am a collector of all sorts of finds that have struck my fancy over the years...this pottery collection was my first and most treasured...picked up the first rose colored plate in an antique shop in Utah about 1975, only $1, pretty and had a raised rosebud design, my middle name is Rose (a family handed down name) so i bought it...and the collection has grown alot over the years, it's not found very often so i get so excited, my heart races when i find a piece...greg has gotten me a few pieces off ebay but i love the surprise find the best...
it was made by the Coors beer co. to compete with Bauer & Fiesta...only produced for a few years prior to WW2, then stopped to produce creamic mortar & pestals for the war....
at this point i believe i have one piece of each style made except the honey pot spoon, so keep your eyes on the lookout for me..
last summer The Antique Roadshow came to San Diego to film, my oldest son, who wants to inherit the collection was really hoping i would make it on the show, but they felt i knew too much about what i had & they like to have that element of surprise but it was still a fun experience...the three shows taped in San Diego will start airing this monday so i'll be watching to see if me, greg, matthew or heather are maybe in the background cause none of us made it on the show....
