for the last couple of days I have been under the expert tutelage of Lisa Bongean, yes the Primitive Gatherings very one.......as an instructor, I can tell you, she has a wealth of constructive, helpful, friendly, useful stitching information..... Fun and Nice to boot!
a crazy quilt was our project and I've always wanted to give that a try......her technique was so easy, right up my alley......
Winter Crazy Quilt Table Mat
now being a bit of a darker, more primitive quilter I changed Lisa's design up a bit so my crazy quilt table mat can sit out all year......
so intent was I on learning those crazy quilt stitches I stitched the piece right to my jeans at one point!
one useful and simple tip Lisa gave us I used last night, is to tuck a pillow under our stitching project, less stress on our neck and back, works!
now my crazy quilt design will not become a pattern, as this is already a Primitive Gatherings design.....I just changed the wool colors for the background and used my own applique drawings but I have an idea......
you can purchase Primitive Gatherings Wool Crazy Table Mat pattern from them and Whatnots pattern from me, which has the pieces I used for applique....
now out of two patterns you have three designs......snowman crazy quilt, small quilt and a primitive crazy mat and you could make the little quilt in blues with snowman appliques around......now your have four for the price of two!
now off to clean my house which has not been touched because I was having to much fun learning stuff......
enjoy.......

Both mats are lovely!! Good trick with the pants... :)
Lucky you. Lisa is the best!
Oh how wonderful. How excited. It's so beautiful.
Great stuff Cheri -- your work is just beautiful!
Wonderful new design and I love your version too. I did get their flower piece and made that for a friend since it was too bright for my taste. I did not follow the pattern for the base, I have no idea what I was doing, would have loved to be in your class to learn the stitches.
Debbie
wow, just love this, both ways!
*LOL* That is pretty funny about stitching it to your pants! Took a class last year from Lisa--she is a great teacher, isn't she?
Hi Cheri, glad you had such a good time, thanks for sharing. Blessings and smiles, Emilou :-)
Lucky you, love your colors!
Love both of the mats! And, I'd probably give both a try too! Too funny about stitching to your pants! lol!
Love what you did with your crazy mat and that you made it "you"! And, I feel your pain - I've stitched projects to my pants too (now I know I'm in good company and don't feel so bad!).
love it ~ I love crazy quilt stitches!!!!

So lovely! :)
Greetings from Finland!
Hugs, Ulla
You definitely put your own twist on the wool project. And it looks like you were making yourself a pair of wool pants by stitching the piece to what you were wearing. You may start a new trend.
Love how you changed yours for an all year version! But I really loved that you sewed it to your pants!! lol
Wonderful wool mats! I'm taking a wool class from Lisa this weekend. Can't wait! Maybe I should take a pillow!
Cheri I remember the stitching it to your pants so well, but what you forgot to mention was how you also blessed us with wonderful homemade muffins for the class... I just discovered your blog and have enjoyed the last hour reading over the posts... I'll be following it from now on.
Cheri...I ran across this pic of you in the chair on Pinterest and followed the link back to here. Your wool mat is so wonderful...lots of red...and black. I was happy to see that you sewed your project to yourself...I have done the very same, more than once! I absolutely love the chair you are sitting in...the big red flowers are so fun! Did you purchase the chair in that fabric or did you have it recovered at some point? It looks so comfy!
Hope you are staying warm,
Robyn
Nice Work dear.
