the three little quilts......

need a weekend project, here you go got one for you..... three little quilts all inspired by flying geese, there's the little quilt, the littler quilt and littlest quilt.....

all you have to do is make 79 flying geese, that's fun.....
mine are made from 3&1/4" squares cut diagonally twice and 1&7/8" squares cut diagonally once..... now i know some of you use different methods to make your flying geese blocks so my unfinished block size is 1&1/2" x 2&1/2" ....... ten squares for the goose will give you enough for 80, now of course mine are a little scrappier so i added a few extra blocks and will use my leftovers for more little quilts later........

will start with the littlest quilt on monday, which only uses 11 blocks, in case your weekend is just super packed with fun already!
enjoy

Kate Adams

on Pintrest (i know you don't believe it!) again and came across a pin of a miniature quilt, that i did repin.....went on the site it came from originally http://www.kateadamsfineminiaturequilts.com and was amazed by all the tiny, tiny....i mean tiny pieces 1"=1' (1:12) scale, most blocks measure a mere 1/4" square, carefully adapted quilts from the 19th-early 20th century..... beautiful works of art......as i'm looking at all the photos of her miniature quilts, i come across this one red schoolhouse one......oh my gosh!!! i own that, walk by it everyday, have for seventeen years, i own an incredible Kate Adams Fine Miniature Quilt.....bought it obviously several years ago at a wholesale gift show that i attended when i owned my quilt shop, bought this one for me and two others that i gave as gifts to my employees.....it is called Traditional Schoolhouse, measures 8"x 8", each entire house block is only 2"...... amazing huh!!!

a couple other photos of her miniature works of art from the website.....

cow blankets.....

this is a photo of Kate Clayton "Granny" Donaldson 1864-1960 Marble North Carolina

she is shown with her husband and is holding one of her "cow blankets" so folksy, primitive, uniquely different......

this is the first image i saw of a cow blanket on Pintrest, was blown away......needed to know more.....Goggled Kate Clayton Donaldson and this is some of what i have found.....
she was working in the kitchen of the John C Campbell Folk School when Allen Eaton brought in several examples of international folk art to share, one of which was "cow blankets" a decorative blanket used to drape over cows for festivals in Italy....never had heard of this, interesting.....
it was said that a neighbor left behind a baby blanket at her home and she thought it would be nice to decorate it with crocheted animals appliqued on......a member of the Southern Highlands Handicraft Guild saw the blanket and encouraged her to make more, so glad she did.....
these blanket are on homespun backgrounds with crocheted animals, people, baskets, trees all hand appliqued on......
would love to try and make one of my own probably, most likely using fabric applique as crocheting all these shapes without a chain one, chain two guide will be an impossibility.......just am so in awe of these "cow blankets" so right up my folksy alley......

just had to share.....

International Model A Day.....

yesterday was International Model A Day and we toured the coast with several other Model A's to celebrate.....

this is me with our Model A....

this pose is on purpose because my hubby is one of those that has to fix a faucet, trim trees, etc. right before a party.....needless to say we had a wiggly turn signal light that he decided to repair as i was grabbing our stuff to head out the door and it completely fell off, now we have no light on that side....so i had to lean over it.....
also notice i have a sweater on, as i knew being on the coast it would be cloudy and cool, felt very comfortable.....in the afternoon heading back inland where we live can see and feel all the puffy clouds over the mountains in the east, which means "moonsoonal moisture" dread it, means hot and humid, sticky, yucky....
so i start to feel it, start to complain, greg tries to sympathize, i try to rationalize my plight " women have menstrual cycles, childbirth, menopause what do men have to deal with!?!!" he says with a straight face "we have to listen to it!!!" well i laughed so hard almost peed my pants, another women's issue......

here's our sweet almost 8 Cooper after his baseball game, during which i used my cold water filled spray fan to keep cool......

stay cool :)

cotton bolls.....

my package of cotton bolls arrived and i was so excited to have them add a bit of homespun nature to my home, twigs went in this green Bauer pitcher.....

loose ones filled this green bowl......

and then the next morning my cats obviously decided to do some redecorating with the twigs, guess they like cotton as much as i do......
